Hand/Arm Vibration

Degradation of senses of touch and temperature
Numbness and tingling in fingers
Muscular aches and pains
A symptom known as vibration white finger

Many countries have introduced vibration exposure limits at work which must not be exceeded. The vibration of any hand tool is measured in magnitude m/s2, this is required by the legislation and is used along with trigger time to calculate the exposure of a person to give a daily A(8).

What are the action and limit values?

The Vibration Regulations require you to take specific action at certain action and limit values. These relate to the levels of vibration exposure of your employees averaged over a working day.

Daily Exposure Action Value (EAV):
2.5 m/s2 (A8);
Which equals to 100 Daily exposure points;
Daily Exposure Limit Value (ELV):
5 m/s2 (A8);
Which equals to 400 Daily exposure points;
Quantitative measurement of HAV equipment (Tool vibration Magnitude m/s2 )
Assessment of Personal Daily Hand Arm Vibration Exposure Levels (if applicable)
Determination of daily 8-hour vibration exposure (A8)
Exposure points determination as per HSENI guidelines
Assessment of level of current control
