BREEAM

BREEAM (BRE’s Environmental Assessment Method) is the leading environmental assessment and rating method for buildings. It sets the standard for best practice in sustainable building design and has become the de facto measure used to describe a building's environmental performance. The BREEAM assessment covers the viability of a building’s design, construction and operation, and ensures compliance with recognised standards. The process considers a broad range of relevant factors, credits can be gained for aspects such as energy efficiency, water quality, health and safety, waste allocation, pollution, and transport.

Health & Well Being – BREEAM HEA2 Indoor Air Quality Credits

As research has linked poor indoor air quality to health deterioration and poor performance of building occupants. BREEAM assessments reward up to 6 credits for buildings that minimise sources of pollution and optimise indoor air quality.

Outlined under BREEAM HEA02 Indoor Air Quality credits are split into three parts across:

Minimising sources of air pollution (3 credits)
Potential for natural ventilation (1 credit)
Laboratory fume cupboard and containment areas (2 credits)

HEA 02 Indoor Air Quality – Why Do It?

It can boost the developer’s or occupier’s green image.
It proves the building was built refurbed with low air pollution in mind from the outset.
It proves the project had satisfactory levels of VOC & formaldehyde at the time of handover.
It contributes to the wellbeing of the occupants throughout the life of the building.
Occupying companies gain by having staff comfortable with their working environment.

At DevineAir we assist clients in fulling the requirements for obtaining these credits outlined in HEA02 –by offering air quality tests for indoor pollutants, assisting with the preparation of the necessary support documentation and advice on remediation and control.

Our services include:

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) Emissions testing
(BREEAM HEA02 Compliant) Indoor Air Quality Plans (IAQP)
Formaldehyde Concentration Measurements
Post Occupancy Testing
Indoor Air Quality Audits
All our air monitoring is undertaken in accordance with the following standards:
BS EN ISO 16000-4: 2004 Diffusive Sampling of Formaldehyde Air
EN ISO 16000-6: 2011 VOCS in Air by Active Sampling
BS EN 16017-2: 2003 VOCS – Indoor, Ambient and Workplace Air by Passive Sampling
BS EN ISO 16000-3: 2001 Formaldehyde and other Carbonyls in Air by Pumped Sampling
